NARVI VTOL UAV

Small Aircraft. Serious Capability.

The BlackBox NARVI is a compact, long-endurance VTOL UAV currently under development by BlackBox UAV in South Africa.

Designed as a practical workhorse platform for commercial and professional operations, NARVI combines the efficiency of a fixed-wing aircraft with the operational flexibility of vertical take-off and landing.

No runway. No complicated launch equipment. Just deploy, take off vertically, transition to efficient fixed-wing flight, and get to work.

NARVI is being developed with real-world applications in mind — including agriculture, security, surveying, inspection, mapping and environmental monitoring.

***CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT

NARVI is currently undergoing development and testing.

We are refining the aircraft's airframe, propulsion system, flight characteristics and payload capabilities before entering final production.

Specifications shown on this page are preliminary and may change during development.

PRELIMINARY ESTIMATED SPECIFICATIONS

Aircraft Type: VTOL Fixed-Wing UAV
Configuration: Tri-Rotor Tilt VTOL
Wingspan: Approx. 1.0-1.6 m
MTOW: Approx. 1.5–2.5 kg
Flight Endurance: Approx. 1.5–2 hours*
Operational Range: Up to approx. 10 km*
Payload: Daylight / Thermal / Mapping options
Development: South Africa 🇿🇦

*Final performance specifications will depend on configuration, payload, weather conditions and final aircraft development.

BUILT FOR THE REAL WORLD

We don't believe professional UAVs need to be unnecessarily complicated or prohibitively expensive.

NARVI is being designed around a simple philosophy:

Reliable. Practical. Serviceable. Capable.

A compact platform that can be transported easily, deployed quickly and operated in environments where conventional aircraft simply aren't practical.

MULTIPLE PAYLOAD OPTIONS

NARVI is being designed to support different mission payloads, allowing the aircraft to be configured for the job at hand.

Potential payload configurations include:

• High-resolution daylight cameras
• Thermal imaging
• Mapping and surveying payloads
• Custom mission-specific payloads

The modular approach allows NARVI to evolve with your operational requirements.

WHY VTOL?

Traditional fixed-wing UAVs require a launch and recovery area.

NARVI doesn't.

Vertical take-off and landing allows the aircraft to operate from farms, remote sites, confined areas and locations where a runway simply isn't available.

Once airborne, NARVI transitions into efficient fixed-wing flight to maximise endurance and operational range.

The best of both worlds.

MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA

NARVI is being developed and manufactured by BlackBox UAV, a proudly South African UAV company focused on building practical aircraft for real-world applications.

Our goal is not simply to build another drone.

We are building a range of UAV platforms designed around the needs of the people who actually use them.

Designed in South Africa. Built for the world.

WHY WE BUILT NARVI

What if we made the fixed-wing smaller?

The idea behind NARVI started with a simple problem.

We wanted 1–2 hours of useful flight time from a UAV that was small, compact and easy to transport.

Our first thought was to look at the conventional multirotor.

Could we refine the propulsion system? Reduce weight? Increase battery capacity? Optimise the motors and propellers?

But eventually, we asked ourselves a different question:

Why are we trying to make a multirotor fly like a fixed-wing aircraft?

Why not make the fixed-wing smaller?

And that's where NARVI was born.

NOT EVERY UAV NEEDS TO BE BIG

The NARVI was never designed to compete with large, long-endurance UAVs.

That's what the NOVA is for.

NOVA is our platform for extended endurance, larger payloads and missions where maximum time in the air matters.

NARVI has a different purpose.

We wanted to create a UAV that could replace the multirotor you already use, while giving you the endurance and efficiency advantages of fixed-wing flight.

Small enough to throw in the vehicle.

Light enough to handle easily.

Compact enough to transport without special equipment.

Capable of taking off and landing vertically.

But once airborne, efficient enough to stay in the air for significantly longer than a conventional multirotor.

THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

NARVI is built around a simple principle:

Make the aircraft as small as possible — without compromising the mission.

Every part of the design has been considered around that philosophy.

The compact airframe reduces the logistical footprint.
The fixed-wing configuration provides efficient forward flight.
The VTOL system eliminates the need for a runway or launch equipment.
The modular payload concept allows the same aircraft to perform different missions.

The result is a platform designed to be carried, deployed and operated by a small team — or even a single operator.

DON'T CHASE THE RECORD. SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

There are already UAVs designed to stay airborne for many hours.

NARVI isn't trying to beat them.

It doesn't need to.

The objective is to find the sweet spot between size, endurance, capability and practicality.

If a conventional multirotor gives you 20–40 minutes of useful flight time, but a mission requires significantly longer, the traditional answer has often been to move to a much larger aircraft.

We wanted another option.

Keep the footprint of a multirotor.
Get closer to the endurance of a fixed-wing.

That's the gap NARVI is designed to fill.

THE MULTIROTOR REPLACEMENT

NARVI isn't intended to replace every UAV.

It's intended to replace the right one.

The aircraft you keep in the vehicle.

The aircraft you take onto the farm.

The aircraft you deploy for an inspection.

The aircraft you use for a quick mapping mission.

The aircraft you need to get airborne without searching for a runway.

But instead of landing after a short multirotor flight, NARVI transitions into efficient fixed-wing flight and keeps working.

Small enough to carry.

Capable enough to matter.

Efficient enough to stay.

That's NARVI.
